Tater Trot Tracker: September 4

Sorry, need to keep this brief again today. It’s been a busy weekend.

Home Run of the Day: Jim Thome, Minnesota Twins #2 (Trot Time: 23.14 seconds) [video]

Thome started the afternoon one home run behind Mark McGwire on the all-time leaderboards. He ended the day one home run ahead of McGwire on the leaderboard. I keep saying it, but I’m having a lot of fun seeing Thome continue to mash so late in his career.

Slowest Trot: Carlos Lee, Houston Astros – 26.15 seconds [video]

Carlos Lee now has 20 home runs. He has also had the slowest home run of the day 11 different times now. Only David Ortiz and Vladimir Guerrero have been slowest more often.

Quickest Trot: Andrew McCutchen, Pittsburgh Pirates – 18.15 seconds [video]

I do love watching McCutchen run out his home runs, even if he does look like Willie McGee with dreadlocks (and that’s not a good thing).

I should note that Cincinnati pitcher Travis Wood hit his first career home run yesterday, and he ran it out in only 19.3 seconds. That’s a pretty cool thing to see.

About Larry Granillo

Larry Granillo has been writing Wezen Ball since 2008 and has dealt with such touchy topics as Charlie Brown's baseball stats and Ferris Bueller's day off. In 2010, he got the bright idea to time every home run trot in baseball; he has been missing ever since.
