Tater Trot Tracker: July 30

July 30, 2010 - San Francisco, CALIFORNIA, UNITED STATES - epa02267947 San Francisco Giants Aubrey Huff follows through with a solo home run off a pitch by Los Angeles Dodgers relief pitcher Jeff Weaver during the seventh inning at AT&T Park in San Francisco, California, USA 30 July 2010.

Sorry for the lateness of the post today. I made mention of it on Twitter this morning, but I’ve been pretty busy this weekend preparing for the SABR conference on Thursday, and the Tater Trot Tracker posts are going to be late because of it. I expect it’ll be the same deal tomorrow. The posts will be brief, as well.

Home Run of the Day: Alex Gordon, Kansas City Royals (Trot Time: 22.47 seconds) [video]

A walkoff home run from Alex Gordon, Kansas City’s own scapegoat? Very nice to see.

Slowest Trot: Juan Rivera, Los Angeles Angels – 27.34 seconds [video]

Juan Rivera continues to be the most underrated slow trotter in the league. David Ortiz hit a grand slam yesterday, clocking in at “only” 25.98 seconds.

Quickest Trot: Rafael Furcal, Los Angeles Dodgers – 19.41 seconds [video]

One of four 19-second trotters, the quickest trotter of the night belonged to the Dodgers’ Rafael Furcal. Minnesota’s Alexi Casilla was awarded a home run after it was originally called a triple. He was running super-hard into third, too, and could’ve had a pretty strong trot time if he was allowed to run it out.

About Larry Granillo

Larry Granillo has been writing Wezen Ball since 2008 and has dealt with such touchy topics as Charlie Brown's baseball stats and Ferris Bueller's day off. In 2010, he got the bright idea to time every home run trot in baseball; he has been missing ever since.
