Tater Trot Tracker: July 27

Home Run of the Day: Nelson Cruz, Texas Rangers (Trot Time: 24.34* seconds) [video]

There wasn’t a whole lot of competition for Home Run of the Day yesterday – I guess we’re all still waiting for Alex Rodriguez to slug #600 – but that shouldn’t take anything away from Nelson Cruz. His tenth-inning walkoff blast off of Oakland’s Michael Wuertz was plenty impressive on its own. The trot time may be slightly off – with his slow walk into his crowd of teammates (and the weird camera angle we’re given) it’s pretty hard to be precise.

Slowest Trot: Bobby Abreu, Los Angeles Angels – 25.7 seconds [video]

It was a pretty lackluster day for home runs yesterday. Other than Cruz’s huge walkoff bomb and Dan Uggla‘s pair of home runs, there just weren’t many interesting home runs, and the trot times didn’t help. Abreu’s is the only trot that could be considered really slow, and it’s not even that bad…

Quickest Trot: Brad Hawpe, Colorado Rockies – 19.84 seconds [video]

While, on the flip side, we get Hawpe’s 19.84 second trot as the quickest trot of the day. The 19.95 second trot from Neil Walker in the same game is the only other sub-twenty second trot of the night.

About Larry Granillo

Larry Granillo has been writing Wezen Ball since 2008 and has dealt with such touchy topics as Charlie Brown's baseball stats and Ferris Bueller's day off. In 2010, he got the bright idea to time every home run trot in baseball; he has been missing ever since.
