Sorry for the late and brief post again. Busy day at work kept me from doing the normal lunchtime post. Hopefully that’ll settle down tomorrow and Wednesday.

Home Run of the Day: Jason Heyward, Atlanta Braves #2 (Trot Time: 21.57 seconds) [video]

Jason Heyward and Omar Infante both hit two home runs in the Braves’ 14-6 clubbing of the Cubs in Lou Piniella’s final game as manager. But we all love Heyward more than Infante, so he gets the Home Run of the Day honors. Hunter Pence almost gets Home Run of the Day honors for his almost uncoordinated home run trot [video].

Slowest Trot: Vladimir Guerrero, Texas Rangers – 27.03 seconds [video]

It feels like it’s been a while since we’ve seen Vlad here. I guess the dog days of summer hit everyone. Josh Hamilton‘s trot should be noted. The ball clearly went over the fence, but it was hard to tell from the infield if the Baltimore outfielder reeled the ball in. Because of that, Hamilton waited at first base for a good 5-10 seconds before continuing on his way. He technically reached the plate in 28.05 seconds, but I don’t count interrupted trots like that in the official tally.

Quickest Trot: Lastings Milledge, Pittsburgh Pirates & Hunter Pence, Houston Astros – 19.4 seconds [videovideo]

Is this the first time I’ve had a tie for the fastest or slowest trot? It feels weird.

About Larry Granillo

Larry Granillo has been writing Wezen Ball since 2008 and has dealt with such touchy topics as Charlie Brown's baseball stats and Ferris Bueller's day off. In 2010, he got the bright idea to time every home run trot in baseball; he has been missing ever since.
