This is up pretty late tonight, so it’s going to be brief. I’m busy entertaining some guests this weekend, so the post may be up late tomorrow as well. Just FYI…

Home Run of the Day: Lyle Overbay, Toronto Blue Jays #2 (Trot Time: 20.97 seconds) [video]

No big home runs yesterday, so we’ll just go with the most unlikely of the multi-home run games. Lyle Overbay, for some reason, seems to enjoy running around the bases. As someone said on Twitter: “Why does Lyle Overbay run faster in his home run trot than he does when he hits a ground ball to the infield?”

Slowest Trot: Aubrey Huff, San Francisco Giants – 25.87 seconds [video]

There were two 25-second trots yesterday out of twenty-three homers. Ryan Doumit came in at 25.36 seconds, while Huff took an extra half-second for his.

Quickest Trot: Ben Zobrist, Tampa Bay Rays – 18.84 seconds [video]

The only sub-twenty-second trot of the day came off the bat of Tampa Bay’s Ben Zobrist, only his sixth homer of the year (though five of which were in the 19-second range).

About Larry Granillo

Larry Granillo has been writing Wezen Ball since 2008 and has dealt with such touchy topics as Charlie Brown's baseball stats and Ferris Bueller's day off. In 2010, he got the bright idea to time every home run trot in baseball; he has been missing ever since.
