Home Run of the Day: Joe Mauer, Minnesota Twins (Trot Time: 20.65 seconds) [video]

It should not be forgotten that Joe Mauer is having another awesome year. Maybe everyone has forgotten to notice that because they remember his less-than-hot start, but that’s all out the window these days. He’s hitting .430 in the month since the All-Star break. He’s as good as ever. His home run last night was his first at Target Field, which might make some question his value this year. Don’t.

Slowest Trot: Miguel Cabrera, Detroit Tigers #1 – 27.93 seconds [video]

The Yankees and Tigers did not exactly get along yesterday, with numerous batters getting buzzed by pitches and with Jim Leyland getting ejected. Miguel Cabrera‘s big day (including two home runs) probably had a little to do with the touchiness. His first trot of the day is one of the slowest we’ve seen in a while (though nowhere near slow enough to crack the top ten).

Quickest Trot: Andrew McCutchen, Pittsburgh Pirates -17.64 seconds) [video]

I don’t know what exactly has gotten into McCutchen recently, but it’s certainly nice to see him both hitting home runs and sprinting around the bases like there’s no tomorrow. Coco Crisp (18.7 secs) and Curtis Granderson (18.75 secs) also had some nice, quick trots.

About Larry Granillo

Larry Granillo has been writing Wezen Ball since 2008 and has dealt with such touchy topics as Charlie Brown's baseball stats and Ferris Bueller's day off. In 2010, he got the bright idea to time every home run trot in baseball; he has been missing ever since.
