Tater Trot Tracker: August 13

August 13, 2010: Rockies shortstop, Troy Tulowitzki, hits a three-run, eighth inning homerun during a game between the Milwaukee Brewers and the Colorado Rockies at Coors Field, Denver, Colorado. Rockies defeat the Brewers 5-4.

Home Run of the Day: Nelson Cruz, Texas Rangers (Trot Time: 22.39 seconds) [video]

To cap off a nine home run day between the two teams, Texas’ Nelson Cruz crushed an eleventh inning homer off of a dancing knuckler from Tim Wakefield to win the game for the Rangers. Boston’s J.D. Drew had two home runs himself in the game.

Slowest Trot: Troy Tulowitzki, Colorado Rockies – 26.74 seconds [video]

I was going to put this as the Home Run of the Day but, since it was already the slowest trot of the day, I figured I’d just talk about it here. Yovani Gallardo pitched a strong game for the Brewers, taking a 4-2 lead into the eighth. Ken Macha tried to milk an extra inning out of the ace, but he had nothing left, putting the first two batters on. Kameron Loe came in to finish the inning off, and promptly gave up this bomb to Tulowitzki that Ryan Braun nearly caught. It’s hard to tell if the super-slow trot was due to injury, celebration, or just waiting to see if it was caught. Houston’s Carlos Lee had the second slowest trot with a 26.03 second trot.

Quickest Trot: Michael Young, Texas Rangers – 17.87 seconds [video]

There was actually a refreshingly high number sub-twenty second trots yesterday, with a couple of 18-second-or-better trots in the mix. Texas’ Mike Young topped them off, though, with this 17.87 second trot.

About Larry Granillo

Larry Granillo has been writing Wezen Ball since 2008 and has dealt with such touchy topics as Charlie Brown's baseball stats and Ferris Bueller's day off. In 2010, he got the bright idea to time every home run trot in baseball; he has been missing ever since.
