Trot Times for May 3, 2015

A beautiful weekend means the ball was flying out of the yard. Let’s get right to the trots!

Home Run of the Day: Kolten Wong, St. Louis Cardinals – 23.68 seconds [video] and Yasmani Grandal, Los Angeles Dodgers – 23.45 seconds [video]
Extra-inning walkoff home run? Yeah, we had two of them on Sunday. In Los Angeles, Grandal went deep in the bottom of the 12th to win it for the Dodgers. With his teammates celebrating at home, Grandal leapt onto the plate in exhilaration. It’s not the safest looking jump, however. You’d think, after the Kendrys Morales injury, players would have learned.

In St. Louis, Kolten Wong won it for the Cardinals in 14 innings. Wong is usually so speedy around the bases, but that did not translate to his walkoff trot. In fact, this is almost certainly the slowest trot of Wong’s career. Not that there’s anything wrong with that.

Slowest Trot: Chris Carter, Houston Astros – 26.19 seconds [video]
A monster blast in Houston. I’m not the biggest fan of Minute Maid Park from what I’ve seen of it on television, but it sure does make home runs look grand. Carter beats out Miguel Cabrera for the slowest trot of the day.

Quickest Trot: Matt Carpenter, St. Louis Cardinals – 17.96 seconds [video]
This knock is worth watching, with Pittsburgh center fielder Andrew McCutchen slamming into the wall (and losing his glove over it) trying to rob the homer. Meanwhile, Carpenter speeds around the bases just in case the ball was still in play. Colorado’s Charlie Blackmon turned in a quick 18.78 second trot as well.
