Trot Times for June 21, 2015

It was the first day of summer on Sunday and, boy, did they bring the heat! Let’s get right to the trots.

Home Run of the Day: J.D. Martinez #3, Detroit Tigers – 28.69 seconds [video]
Three home runs in the first six innings for Martinez, with number three landing in the second deck at Yankee Stadium. Overall, there were 8 homers in the Tigers/Yankees game on Sunday.

Slowest Trot: J.D. Martinez #3, Detroit Tigers – 28.69 seconds [video]
It’d be tempting to look at that line above and think that Martinez took his sweet time around the bases because he had just hit three home runs in a single game. However, the 28-second trot time was completely out of Martinez’s control thanks to the baserunner ahead of him. Yoenis Cespedes was on first when Martinez went deep for the third time and it was he who took 28-seconds to trot home. All Martinez could do was follow slowly behind him, for fear of passing Cespedes on the basepaths.

Quickest Trot: Stephen Drew #2, New York Yankees – 20.55 seconds [video]
There were 38 home runs around the league on Sunday and yet this trot was the quickest of the day. This could be a record for most home runs in a single day without a sub-20 second trot. How disappointing.
