Trot Times for April 26, 2015

It was a full weekend, so let’s get right to the trots.

Home Run of the Day: Alex Rodriguez, New York Yankees – 20.93 seconds [video]
Career home run #659 puts A-Rod exactly one home run behind all-time great Willie Mays. I often joke about the Yankees reticence to celebrate their third-baseman reaching and passing what has been one of the greatest home run milestones in baseball history, but there’s no joking around now. The milestone is imminent and the only question is what are the Yankees going to do about it? I almost wish Rodriguez would wait until the Yanks were on the road to hit it because, the way things have been going, it’s more likely to be properly celebrated outside of Yankee Stadium. The Yanks are in town through Thursday, however (and then they visit Fenway Park!), so I’m not sure that will happen. Needless to say, I’ll be watching every one of A-Rod’s at-bats until then.

Slowest Trot: Hanley Ramirez #2, Boston Red Sox – 29.06 seconds [video]
Two home runs for Ramirez, with both trots clocking in at more than 28-seconds. Too bad for Hanley that the Red Sox lost the game 18-7. On Saturday, fellow Boston team member Mike Napoli earned the slowest trot of the day with a 28.19 second trot.

Quickest Trot: Curtis Granderson, New York Mets – 17.91 seconds [video]
Glad to see Granderson finally get on the board in 2015 with this leadoff shot. It’s always nice to see him sprint around the bases. Saturday’s quickest trot also doubled as a walkoff, as Baltimore David Lough sprinted home in only 19.12 seconds as the Orioles won in 10 innings.

About Larry Granillo

Larry Granillo has been writing Wezen Ball since 2008 and has dealt with such touchy topics as Charlie Brown's baseball stats and Ferris Bueller's day off. In 2010, he got the bright idea to time every home run trot in baseball; he has been missing ever since.
