Trot Times for May 10, 2014

In case you missed the shocking news last night, David Ortiz etched his name into the history books again with his third 30-second trot of the season. Big Papi is now responsible for 4 of the 8 non-injury half-minute trots of the Tater Trot Tracker era. Just when you think Big Papi has done all he can on the bases, he adds something more. I still love it.

Now let’s get to the rest of the trots.

Home Run of the Day: David Ortiz, Boston Red Sox – 31.09 seconds [video]
You can read all about Papi’s latest half-minute trot here. There’s almost no words.

Slowest Trot: David Ortiz, Boston Red Sox – 31.09 seconds [video]
In other slow trot news, Detroit’s Victor Martinez had himself quite the journey on the bases on Saturday. The official trot time for V-Mart clocks in at 28.09 seconds, but there’s a little uncertainty there. Thanks to the imperfect camera work, it’s very difficult to know exactly which foot touched home plate. I feel pretty good about using this as the official trot time, but there’s a chance that it may have been a bit quicker. Either way, we know that Martinez was at least three seconds quicker than Papi, no matter how slow he was.

Quickest Trot: Carlos Gomez, Milwaukee Brewers – 16.9 seconds [video]
On the flip side of the coin is this trot from Gomez. A leadoff moonshot off the glass in the third deck of Miller Park, Gomez sped around the bases at top speed before slowing down on the home stretch. I still think he can challenge Adam Rosales for fastest non-inside-the-parker one of these days, but he’s got to stop slowing down at the end!
