Trot Times for June 29, 2014

The Rays and Orioles combined for 12 home runs in their two games this weekend. That’s not a record by any means, but the ball was certainly flying down at Camden Yards. Now let’s get to the trots!

Home Run of the Day: Wilin Rosario, Colorado Rockies – 17.12* seconds [video]
Little league home runs count, right?

This sharp grounder down the third-base line skipped over Aramis Ramirez’s glove and rolled far to the wall. Rosario then went for third (having never stopped at second) when the ball was arced into home, but rounded the base easily on a throwing error by the catcher. When all was said and done, Rosario rounded the bases in 17.12 seconds. There have been four standard home run trots quicker than Rosario’s “inside-the-park home run” — two by the Brewers’ Carlos Gomez himself (and a third for Gomez at 17.18 seconds).

Slowest Trot: David Ortiz, Boston Red Sox – 27.65 seconds [video]
Career home run #450 for Big Papi landed deep in the Yankee Stadium stands, giving Ortiz ample time to come in with one of his quicker trots of 2014. Seattle’s Robinson Cano had the next slowest trot of the night, clocking in at 25.52 seconds. Cano’s trot was deliberately slow out of the box, as the home run came only two pitches after he was buzzed with a high-and-tight fastball.

Quickest Trot: Kevin Kiermaier, Tampa Bay Rays – 17.76 seconds [video]
Kiermaier tops this list for the second day in a row. He’s making a name for himself with the quick trots. After his 14.29 second inside-the-parker earlier in the year, however, It shouldn’t be too surprising. Now he just needs to speed up enough to break into the top ten!
