Trot Times for June 13, 2014

Friday the 13th and some baseballs were murdered, but it wasn’t Jason who was doing all the killing.

Let’s get right to the trots!

Home Run of the Day: Gregory Polanco, Pittsburgh Pirates – 18.43 seconds [video]
Pretty good night for the rookie. Polanco knocks out five hits in seven at-bats, including the go-ahead home run in the top of the 13th inning. It’s only his fourth game in the big leagues and his first career home run. To top it off, Polanco sped around the bases with the day’s quickest trot.

Slowest Trot: Starlin Castro, Chicago Cubs – 24.44 seconds [video]
On a night where only 13 home runs were hit around the league, someone has to have the slowest trot. The Dodgers’ Matt Kemp was next in line with a 24.18 second trot.

Quickest Trot: Gregory Polanco, Pittsburgh Pirates – 18.43 seconds [video]
The next-quickest trot of the night came from fellow rookie Jon Singleton, who circled the bases in a tidy 19 seconds flat.

Larry Granillo has been writing Wezen Ball since 2008 and has dealt with such touchy topics as Charlie Brown's baseball stats and Ferris Bueller's day off. In 2010, he got the bright idea to time every home run trot in baseball; he has been missing ever since.
