Trot Times for June 1, 2014

It was a busy weekend. Mario Kart 8, Game of Thrones… Let’s get right to the trots!

Home Run of the Day: Kevin Kiermaier, Tampa Bay Rays – 14.92 seconds [video]
I’m cheating a little bit here since this inside-the-park home run occurred on Saturday, but it seemed too important to pass up. Kiermaier earned this home run (only the second of his career) when Boston center fielder Jackie Bradley Jr. tried for an athletic catch of the ball and instead slammed into the Green Monster’s scoreboard. Bradley Jr. stayed on the ground for a long while after the collision, which allowed Kiermaier to score. Even so, the 14.29 second trot is one of the fastest inside-the-parkers since the start of the Tater Trot Tracker era, tying a 2011 trot by Carlos Gomez.

Slowest Trot: Dioner Navarro, Toronto Blue Jays – 25.22 seconds [video]
Navarro edges out a grand slam from Manny Machado for the slowest trot of the afternoon on Sunday. The weekend had slower trots, though, with Asdrubal Cabrera and Miguel Cabrera both posting 27+-second trots on Friday and Mike Aviles besting them all with his 28.51 second trot on Saturday.

Quickest Trot: Chris Heisey, Cincinnati Reds – 18.03 seconds [video]
As is usually the case on days when he clears the fences, Chris Heisey had the quickest trot of Sunday (and of the weekend, non-inside-the-park variety).

Larry Granillo has been writing Wezen Ball since 2008 and has dealt with such touchy topics as Charlie Brown's baseball stats and Ferris Bueller's day off. In 2010, he got the bright idea to time every home run trot in baseball; he has been missing ever since.
