Trot Times for April 8, 2014

Five different multi-home run games yesterday, including Jose Abreu’s first (and second) career home runs and a pair of home runs from Corey Hart in his first game in front of Seattle fans. One slugger rose above them all, however.

Let’s get to the trots!

Home Run of the Day: Ryan Braun #3, Milwaukee Brewers – 23.07 seconds [video]
Braun, battling a nasty thumb issue and some sort of off-the-field controversy that I can’t seem to recall right now, hit his first home run of the year in Citizens Bank Park yesterday. He then hit his second homer of the year. And then, finally, his third.

The bright-side for the Philly faithful at the home opener yesterday: the three combined trots gave those fans more than 68 total seconds to boo Braun while on the basepaths.

Slowest Trot: Alfonso Soriano, New York Yankees – 27.0* seconds [video]
A noticeable strut from Soriano after launching this blast was enough to knock Jose Abreu’s first career trot off the top of this list. It’s a good thing for Abreu because his 26.09 second trot was entirely the fault of the runner in front of him, who forced Abreu to run slowly in order to stay behind him. Albert Pujols also had a significant stare-down after he powered a ball into Safeco’s deep second deck.

Quickest Trot: Dee Gordon, Los Angeles Dodgers – 18.21 seconds [video]
As Vin Scully pointed out, Gordon is 13 pounds heavier this year than last. Clearly, that’s all it took to turn him into a power hitter.
