Trot Times for April 14, 2014

It was a wacky day for Pennsylvania teams, as the Braves/Phillies and Pirates/Reds games accounted for 17 home runs. Scientists have tried to explain what happened, but they were all distracted by the lunar eclipse.

Let’s get to the trots!

Home Run of the Day: Pittsburgh Pirates at Cincinnati Reds – 10 home runs [video]
It was only six innings and rain was pouring down nearly the entire time, but somehow the Reds and Pirates still managed to slug 10 home runs on Monday night. Neil Walker and Gaby Sanchez combined for four of them, with the pair twice going back-to-back. What makes this even better is that, thanks to the rain, the game was suspended. It will resume tonight in the top of the 7th. The teams still have a chance to set the record for most homers in a game!

Slowest Trot: Yoenis Cespedes, Oakland Athletics – 24.97* seconds [video]
The camera cut back to Cespedes with his foot already on the plate, so it’s hard to know the precise time of his trot. He is in a virtual tie with Atlanta’s Evan Gattis, who trotted home in 24.89 seconds on his second trot of the night. Cespedes’ teammate John Jason might have had the slowest trot of the night, but the cameras never showed him anywhere near the plate. With only the Angels broadcasting the game, there were limited angles to work with.

Quickest Trot: Ryan Ludwick, Cincinnati Reds – 18.85 seconds [video]
One of only three trots to clock in under 20 seconds. Unsurprisingly, all three trots came in the Pirates/Reds tilt.
