Trot Times for April 10, 2014

There were a lot of new visitors to the site yesterday as word spread about David Ortiz setting the record for slowest trot of the Tater Trot Tracker era. Glad to see everybody! Sadly, there wasn’t a whole lot going on in the tater trot world on the bases last night, but that’s to be expected. Trotters are a funny bunch. In the meantime, the YES Network did give us a (mostly) positive shoutout on the air yesterday, which was fun to see.

But enough of that. Let’s get to the trots!

Home Run of the Day: Jose Abreu #2, Chicago White Sox – 23.26 seconds [video]
The Cuban rookie has been electrifying this week, as he shows the big leagues that his power is definitely major league level. This was the second multi-home run game in three nights for him. Expect to see quite a few more.

Justin Upton, who also had a multi-homer night on Thursday, deserves some mention too. His second blast was measured at 477 feet and needs to be seen. Here’s the video. As big as that blast was, the highlight of the video might just be New York pitcher Jenrry Mejia’s reaction.

Slowest Trot: Jayson Werth, Washington Nationals – 24.39 seconds [video]
Only 24 seconds? Ho hum. Wake me when he breaks the 30-second mark.

Quickest Trot: Robbie Grossman, Houston Astros – 17.59 seconds [video]
Thank god for Robbie. As much as I love those big, monster trots like Papi’s, I’ll always be drawn to these sprints around the bases. While 17.59 seconds isn’t going to be a top trot all season, it’s still a great thing to see on any given day. The next quickest trot on Thursday was a 19.0 second trot from Alexei Ramirez.
