Let's get right to it.
Home Run of the Day: Adam Rosales, Oakland Athletics – N/A* seconds [video] (* ball technically ruled a double)
The A's were trailing the Indians by one with two outs in the top of the ninth inning when tater trot hero Adam Rosales hit a home run. The ball bounced off the railing above the centerfield wall and back into play. Rosales was forced to stop at second since the ball was still live; no one had signaled home run yet.
And no one would. Even after heading in for a replay of the home run, the Angel Hernandez-led umpiring crew upheld the call on the field, forcing Rosales to stay at second rather than score the tying run. The Indians would go on to win the game. It's a total crock.
Slowest Trot: J.J. Hardy, Baltimore Orioles – 24.99 seconds [video]
A long flyball down the left field line. Hardy watched to see if the ball would stay fair before heading out on the bases. The hesitation likely slowed him down enough to take the slowest trot of the day. In fairness, the second slowest trotter (Ian Kinsler) was delayed for the same reason.
Quickest Trot: Bryce Harper, Washington Nationals – 18.51 seconds [video]
On his first trot since the Wall Street Journal wrote about his tater trot times, Bryce Harper gave us a trot identical to his career average (an average that has been steadily creeping higher these last few weeks). To tell you the truth, I was hoping for something much faster.
