Trot Times for May 6, 2013

It was an abbreviated schedule for Major League Baseball on Monday, but you would never know it from the home runs. In only nine games around the league (including a make-up game from earlier in the year), there were 25 big flies hit. That's nearly three a game.

Let's get to the trots!

Home Run of the Day: Dustin Pedroia, Boston Red Sox – 18.65 seconds [video]
The Mark Reynolds blast above may have been bigger, but Dustin Pedroia wins out for the home run of the day thanks to the Fenway Park reaction. The place was rocking as his ball sailed into the lightposts – as was the dude standing on his seat in the Green Monster section. The Twins would come back and tie the game with a home run of their own the next inning, but, thankfully for Red Sox fans, the home team pulled it out in extras. Wouldn't want to waste that excitement.

Slowest Trot: Mark Reynolds, Cleveland Indians – 25.52 seconds [video]
I'm pretty sure this blast from Mark Reynolds landed on the roof of the Quicken Loans Arena. It travelled very far. And if it weren't for the fact that all of Mark Reynolds' trots are in the 25-second range, I might also say that he must have followed the ball out there before running home. Instead, I'll just say that he gave us a typical Reynolds trot.

Quickest Trot: Dustin Pedroia, Boston Red Sox – 18.65 seconds [video]
Pedroia beat out Jordan Danks (19.48 seconds) and Hunter Pence (19.63 seconds) for the quickest trot of the night.

About Larry Granillo

Larry Granillo has been writing Wezen Ball since 2008 and has dealt with such touchy topics as Charlie Brown's baseball stats and Ferris Bueller's day off. In 2010, he got the bright idea to time every home run trot in baseball; he has been missing ever since.
