Trot Times for May 5, 2013

Let's get right to the trots!

Home Run of the Day: Manny Machado, Baltimore Orioles – 21.18 seconds [video]
With all of the attention that we've focused on Mike Trout and Bryce Harper in the last year or so, it's almost easy to forget just how good Manny Machado has been since coming to the majors for the Orioles. Currently, the Orioles third baseman is hitting .309/.352/.522 with five home runs in 32 games – and he's only 20 years old! It's kind of amazing.

Slowest Trot: David Ortiz, Boston Red Sox – 27.33 seconds [video]
Of the four home runs Big Papi has hit since coming back from the disabled list, this 27-second tater trot is his quickest.

In Texas, Mitch Moreland hit a home run that barely stayed fair down the left field line. As he was watching the ball fly out of the park, Moreland accidentally stepped over first base. He was forced to retreat a few steps and touch the bag before proceeding. Including this gaffe, his trot clocked in at 25.42 seconds.

Quickest Trot: Brayan Pena, Detroit Tigers – 18.29 seconds [video]
It's always fun to watch a big guy run all out. Compare this trot to Will Venable, who had to slow down at the plate in order to avoid hitting the batter but still managed to nearly beat Pena with an 18.4 second trot. Despite the two having nearly identical trot times, Pena's trot feels much, much faster.
