Trot Times for May 18, 2013

Star Trek Into Darkness was, of course, great. And it even reminded me of a time when NBC thought a bit less about the franchise.

Now let's get to the trots!

Home Run of the Day: Gerardo Parra, Arizona Diamondbacks – 20.0 seconds [video]
A first-inning home run from Parra was all the Diamondbacks would need behind Brandon McCarthy's three-hit shutout.

Slowest Trot: David Ortiz #2, Boston Red Sox – 27.2 seconds [video]
For the first time all year, David Ortiz completed a tater trot quick enough that it wouldn't fall in the top ten slowest trots of the year. Nevermind that it would still be slowest of the day. However, he then followed up that sprint with a second home run in which he could not resist slowing up at the end. Big Papi now owns six of of the ten slowest trots of the year.

Quickest Trot: Brendan Ryan, Seattle Mariners – 16.72 seconds [video]
For all the talk about Adam Rosales and Chris Heisey and Bryce Harper, it's easy to forget that Brendan Ryan is actually the second-fastest trotter of the Tater Trot Tracker era. It hurts that he hits home runs less often than his competition. Including this trot from Saturday, Ryan has an average trot time since the start of the Tracker of 17.57 seconds.

About Larry Granillo

Larry Granillo has been writing Wezen Ball since 2008 and has dealt with such touchy topics as Charlie Brown's baseball stats and Ferris Bueller's day off. In 2010, he got the bright idea to time every home run trot in baseball; he has been missing ever since.
