Trot Times for June 2, 2013

Apologies for the Tater Trot Tracker being gone for a few days. I'm catching up on the trots right now. In the meantime, let's get right to Sunday's trots!

Home Run of the Day: Garrett Jones, Pittsburgh Pirates – 23.16 seconds [video]
With apologies to the monumental bat flip from David Ortiz above and the incredibly hot hitting from both Domonic Brown and Chris Davis, this blast from Pittsburgh's Garrett Jones is the no-brainer home run of the day. Just watch that thing fly, all the way into the Allegheny. As the announcers say, it's only the second "splash hit" in PNC history – a much more exclusive club than that at AT&T Park.

Just watch it again.

Slowest Trot: David Ortiz, Boston Red Sox – 28.33 seconds [video]
Want to know when David Ortiz knows that he stood and watched a ball too long? It's when he speeds around the bases (relatively) and still manages to clock a 28-second tater trot. Papi's trot on Thursday, against the Phillies, was actually slower than this one. That trot clocked in at 29.11 seconds.

Quickest Trot: Chris Herrmann, Minnesota Twins – 17.21 seconds [video]
One of my favorite things to watch is when a player hits his first career home run and then he speeds around the bases like he doesn't know any better. That was Chris Herrmann on his 17-second trot on Sunday. The next quickest trot belonged to Jurickson Profar, who managed an 18.25 second trot earlier in the day.

About Larry Granillo

Larry Granillo has been writing Wezen Ball since 2008 and has dealt with such touchy topics as Charlie Brown's baseball stats and Ferris Bueller's day off. In 2010, he got the bright idea to time every home run trot in baseball; he has been missing ever since.
