Trot Times for May 29, 2013

If you ever wanted to hit multiple home runs in a single big league game, I guess yesterday was the day to do it. Dioner Navarro, Ryan Zimmerman, Troy Tulowitzki, Domonic Brown, and Chris Davis all took advantage of the special alignment of the cosmos (though some more effectively than others).

Let's get to the trots!

Home Run of the Day: Dioner Navarro #3, Chicago Cubs – 25.4 seconds [video]
Let's be honest. If I told you that Ryan Zimmerman hit three home runs for the Nationals yesterday, you'd probably nod your head, smile a bit, and say "Good for him." If, instead, I told you that Dioner Navarro had somehow managed to do the same thing for the Cubs, you'd shake your head and laugh, maybe even calling me a liar.

See, it's that difference that gives Navarro the Home Run of the Day over Zimmerman. No offense to Zim, of course.

Slowest Trot: Dioner Navarro #3, Chicago Cubs – 25.4 seconds [video]
A nice steady progression on Navarro's three trots, from 22.78 seconds on number one to 24.71 seconds on number two and, finally, to more than 25 seconds on number three. Meanwhile, Zimmerman topped out at 23.55 seconds on number two, with his third trot actually a second quicker at 22.46 seconds.

Chris Davis, he of the 19 home runs, had the second slowest trot on his second home run of the day, clocking in at 25.03 seconds.

Quickest Trot: Aaron Hicks, Minnesota Twins – 19.28 seconds [video]
One of these days I'm going to forge to be surprised that a player for the Minnesota Twins named Aaron Hicks isn't some puny David Eckstein-style shortstop. I will not, however, ever be surprised that Hicks can make spectacular plays in the outfield and hit big home runs.
