A late start thanks to the Easter holiday (and some beautiful weather), so let’s get right to the trots!
Home Run of the Day: J.B. Shuck, Los Angeles Angels – 18.7 seconds [video]
Now this is something I’ve never seen before. No, not the home run or even the quick trot. No, this:
Slowest Trot: David Ortiz, Boston Red Sox – 26.23* seconds [video]
For his first homer since setting the record for slowest trot of the Tater Trot Tracker era, David Ortiz hit something remarkably similar. The ball sailed down the first base line and hooked up and over Pesky’s Pole. This blast was a little easier to follow than his last, however, with Papi beginning his much sooner after making contact. It all adds up. This 26-second trot is more than 7 seconds quicker than his record-breaker last week.
Quickest Trot: J.B. Shuck, Los Angeles Angels – 18.7 seconds [video]
Maybe the cameraman tripped because he wasn’t expecting Shuck’s trot to be so fast? Shuck beat out Oakland’s Jed Lowrie for the quickest trot of the day by hair, 18.7 seconds versus 18.75.
