Home Run of the Day: Aubrey Huff, San Francisco Giants (Trot Time: 25.8 seconds) [video]

A decent amount of home runs to choose from yesterday, but nothing too outstanding. The Home Run of the Day, then, goes to San Francisco’s Aubrey Huff, who crushed a ball into McCovey Cove off of Baltimore’s Jeremy Guthrie yesterday.

Slowest Trot: Aubrey Huff, San Francisco Giants – 25.8 seconds [video]

Besides Huff’s splash hit, there were three other 25-second trots in the bigs yesterday: Andre Ethier at 25.03 seconds, Adam Dunn at 25.09 seconds, and Derrek Lee at 25.76 seconds. It was a good day for slow trots.

Quickest Trot: Carlos Gomez, Milwaukee Brewers – 17.29 seconds [video]

It was also a pretty good day for quick trots, with Milwaukee’s Carlos Gomez running one out in 17.29 seconds and Cincinnati’s Chris Heisey running out a 17.79 second trot. Gomez easily could’ve cracked the top 10 if he ran out of the box on contact (instead of waiting to see if it was fair) or if he ran through the plate instead of slowing down the last few steps.

About Larry Granillo

Larry Granillo has been writing Wezen Ball since 2008 and has dealt with such touchy topics as Charlie Brown's baseball stats and Ferris Bueller's day off. In 2010, he got the bright idea to time every home run trot in baseball; he has been missing ever since.
