Home Run of the Day: Jimmy Rollins, Philadelphia Phillies (Trot Time: 21.95 seconds) [video]
For the home run that set it all in motion – the 14th-inning ejection Ryan Howard by a minor-league ump, the left-field shenanigans of All-Star pitcher Roy Oswalt, all 16 innings of fun – we can do nothing short of award it the Home Run of the Day. Rollins tied the game up at two with a two-out, ninth-inning solo home run to right field, and there was not a quiet voice in the building. That must have been some game to be at.

Slowest Trot: Carlos Lee, Houston Astros – 28.31 seconds [video]
With the only other home run in that Astros/Phillies event, Carlos Lee took his trot in a different direction, lumbering around the bases. It’s not unheard of from Lee, of course. This may be his slowest trot of the year, though. I’ll have to check on that when I get home.
Quickest Trot: Josh Hamilton, Texas Rangers – 17.45* seconds [video]
I hate putting that asterisk next to the quickest trot of the day, but I have to in this case. Neither team’s feed gives a perfect view of Hamilton touching home plate. The Minnesota feed, though, does show a good upper-body shot and, with the way he slumps his body right as he gets to where the plate should be, I feel confident that this is an accurate time. Regardless of how precise the time is (17.45 vs 17.6 or 17.3), the next quickest trots belonged to Will Venable (18.25 seconds) and Scott Rolen (18.29 seconds). Hamilton is safe on top.
